Hutchinson Correctional Facility. A correctional officer was
struck on the head by an ash can. We consider two issues: The
refusal of the trial court to declare a mistrial after the State
cross-examined the defendant about a prior conviction and the
meaning of "disfigurement" in K.S.A. 21-3414(b). Arthur Chandler, an inmate at the Hutchinson facility, was
convicted by a jury of one count of aggravated battery against a
law enforcement officer. (K.S.A. 21-3415). Our jurisdiction is
under K.S.A. 1992 Supp. 22-3601(b)(1) (defendant received a
maximum sentence of life imprisonment).
